New! Violence and Aggression: A Comprehensive, Behavior Analytic Perspective on Conceptualization, Prevention and Treatment — 9/07/17 6:00 pm eastern
Violence and Aggression: A Comprehensive, Behavior Analytic Perspective on Conceptualization, Prevention and TreatmentPresented by: Professor Peter Sturmey, PhD, Professor of Psychology at Queens College and The Graduate Center, City University of New York and Editor of the 3 Volume, 125 chapter, Wiley Handbook of Violence and Aggression Date: Thursday, September 7, 2017  Time: 6:00-9:00 pm eastern Recording Information: ABACAccess5Abstract/Summary:Violence and aggression in everyday speech refers to a very wide range of behavior including pushing shoving, fighting, assault, including sexual assault, and killing others. It takes place in many contexts including non-human animal behavior, typical and atypical human development, within intimate relationships, governmental violence and aggression and war. Despite the time and energy cost of violence and aggression they continue to be a common feature of much human behavior. This webinar explores the evidence for genetic basis of violence and aggression within and across species and cultural differences in violence and aggression and the meta-contingencies that might support such differences. Finally, the webinar explores behavior analytic approaches to prevent and treat violent and aggressive behavior in typically developing individuals and within organizations such as school and neighborhoods with gangs and the police. This event does not cover violence and aggression in individuals with developmental disabilities.
